Why Visit

Universal United Kingdom Resort is set to bring a major new theme park and entertainment destination to Bedfordshire, creating the first Universal-branded theme park in the UK and the first major Universal destination in Europe. Planned for the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks site, just south of Bedford, the resort is expected to combine immersive themed lands, major rides, attractions, entertainment, dining and accommodation.

For fans of film, television and immersive entertainment, Universal UK promises an experience built around storytelling and some of the world’s best-known entertainment brands. While the full attraction line-up has not yet been announced, the resort is expected to feature highly themed environments alongside large-scale rides and attractions, bringing the style of Universal’s established destinations to the UK.

The scale of the development is one of the reasons it is already generating so much interest locally and nationally. Universal expects around 8.5 million people to visit during its first year of operation, while the wider project is expected to deliver significant investment in Bedfordshire and improvements to local transport and infrastructure.

There is one important thing to know before planning a visit: you cannot visit Universal United Kingdom Resort yet. Construction is now underway, but the resort is planned to open to the public in 2031. There is currently no confirmed opening day or ticketed opening date, so for now it is very much a future attraction to watch rather than somewhere you can visit today.

For Visit Bedford, however, Universal UK is already an important part of the area’s future. Once open, it is expected to put Bedford firmly on the map as a major UK visitor destination and provide a huge new attraction for families, theme-park fans and visitors from across the country and overseas.
