Herrings Green Activity Farm & Bird of Prey Centre is a fantastic family day out in Wilstead, combining a large collection of birds of prey with farm animals and hands-on activities. Home to more than 200 birds of prey, including eagles, owls, hawks, falcons and kites, it offers the chance to see these impressive birds up close and watch them in action during flying displays.
A big part of the appeal is how interactive the experience can be. Visitors can meet and handle owls, feed some of the farm animals, enjoy animal encounters and, during scheduled sessions, even have a go at flying an owl. The farm is also home to a wide variety of animals including alpacas, ponies, goats, rabbits, wallabies, parrots and reptiles.
There is plenty to keep children entertained beyond the animals, with outdoor play areas, tractor rides and other activities. The centre also runs special events and experiences throughout the year, including junior keeper days, owl encounters, falconry experiences and seasonal events, giving visitors plenty of reasons to return.
For families around Bedford, Herrings Green is an especially convenient countryside day out, being located in Wilstead just south of Bedford. With its combination of wildlife, hands-on activities, flying displays and play areas, it offers a full day of entertainment rather than simply being somewhere to look at animals.
