The Old Curiosity Cafe is a charming independent café on Bromham Road in Bedford, offering a cosy and distinctive setting for breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee and cake. Its quirky décor and characterful interior make it stand out from the larger chain coffee shops, giving it a much more personal and relaxed feel.
The café serves a range of artisan food and drinks, including speciality coffee, freshly prepared sandwiches, toasties and paninis, alongside a tempting selection of cakes and bakes. Breakfast and brunch are also popular, with dishes such as shakshuka and other more substantial options providing plenty of choice beyond the usual café fare.
One of the main reasons to visit is the atmosphere. The Old Curiosity Cafe has a wonderfully eclectic style, with vintage-inspired furnishings, artwork and plenty of little details to discover. It feels like somewhere to settle in and enjoy rather than simply grab a takeaway coffee, making it particularly suited to meeting friends or having a relaxed catch-up.
There is good choice for visitors with different dietary requirements too, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available. The café is also family-friendly and dog-friendly, making it a practical stop for a range of visitors exploring Bedford.
Its location on Bromham Road is another advantage. It is within easy walking distance of Bedford town centre, the main shopping areas and local transport links, while Allhallows Car Park is nearby. This makes it easy to include a visit as part of a wider day exploring Bedford rather than needing to make a special journey.
For visitors looking to discover Bedford’s independent cafĂ© scene, The Old Curiosity Cafe is well worth seeking out. Its combination of quirky surroundings, artisan food, speciality coffee and homemade cakes gives it a character of its own and makes it a particularly good choice for a relaxed breakfast, brunch or coffee stop.
The Old Curiosity Cafe is such a fun little place and honestly so different from your usual coffee shops around Bedford! The decor is probably my favourite thing about it, thereâs so many quirky little bits and pieces to look at, you almost donât know where to look haha! The food menu is a bit different too, not just your standard sandwiches and toasties. The shakshuka is worth looking out for and the cakes always look so tempting. Love that itâs dog friendly aswell, makes it a nice spot to pop into after a walk or for a catch up with friends. Itâs got a really cosy, homely feel and somewhere you can happily sit with a coffee for a while. Such a lovely independent place with loads of personality!
